HONESTY AND TRANSPARENCY

We love the fact that our products touch lives everywhere around the world. And we are aware of the responsibility that comes with it. This awareness is at the core of everything we do, driving our beliefs and our values.

Our values are reflected in our Code of Conduct, our environmental and social commitments, and our stance on animal testing. They shine through in our incessant research for better, safer, and more sustainable formulas and ingredients. And they are the driving force behind our joint projects with all our partners.

NIVEA CARES

People around the world trust NIVEA products – and we do everything to earn that trust. Our philosophy can be summed up in two words: NIVEA cares. We care for the health and safety of your skin. That’s why every ingredient we select for our products must meet safety criteria that exceed regulatory requirements. Each of our formulas is composed to protect and enhance your skin’s natural functions. And each contains only ingredients that serve this purpose.

NIVEA also cares for and respects our planet. We continuously research better, more sustainable ways to formulate and produce our skincare and have done so for many decades. As one of the longest-standing skincare brands, we use our wealth of experience and expertise to promote sustainability in our industry. Our determination to make animal testing obsolete on a global scale is part of this commitment.

NIVEA is more than a brand. It is all of us – everyone who works towards creating our exceptional skincare. We all show that we care for our planet in our own ways. Some of us join volunteering initiatives, e.g. to plant trees around the world. Many of us use bikes or car-pool for our daily commute. As an organization, we avoid business travel whenever we can, opting instead for phone and video conferences. Little by little, we chip away at our environmental footprint!

ANIMAL TESTING

Long before animal testing for cosmetic products (2004) and cosmetic ingredients (2013) was banned in Europe, we used alternative test methods to ensure the safety of NIVEA products. And we keep promoting the development of alternatives so that animal testing will soon become a thing of the past. As one of the leaders in cosmetics research, we work with scientists and institutions on approaches that could replace animal tests, including sophisticated in-vitro methods. These alternatives use human cells and tissue and are just as safe as and often more effective than animal tests.

On the global scale, we work towards the acceptance of alternative test methods everywhere. In China, for example, animal tests are still mandatory for cosmetic products. We aim to convince the Chinese authorities that these tests are unnecessary and can be replaced without compromising consumer safety.

CODE OF CONDUCT

As a global brand, NIVEA works with suppliers around the world. To make sure that every aspect of our supply and production is in line with our values, we have created acode of conduct that serves as a guideline for all our suppliers. Based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Conventions of the International Labor Organization, and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, our code of conduct sets ethical and sustainability standards for our suppliers. Before we agree to work with a supplier, they have to commit to our code of conduct. That’s the first step. We also have a screening, auditing and support system in place to help our suppliers meet our standards and check that they do. This includes collaboration platforms that allow suppliers to share best practices and work with us to make our procurement more sustainable.
